The results of the latest research by Automotive Management and BDO into the UK’s biggest franchised dealer groups is here in the 2024 AM100 report.
And the report also looks into the performance of the 10 largest used car dealers, the ID10, plus the outlook for car brands in the UK marketplace.
What an exciting period this is for motor retailers.
Never in living memory have we had so many new car brands trying to become established in the UK market, at the very same time as the incumbents are battling to adapt and maintain market share.
The impact is clearly seen in the AM100 research, with BYD, Omoda, GWM Ora and Genesis now popping up in the AM100’s franchise mix.
The ongoing network redevelopment by Stellantis is evident in the franchise data too, as many groups which have had just one or two Stellantis brands previously are now representing three or four.
And we’ve noticed small reductions in Ford’s representation as it is reducing its number of sales points and hopefully preserving or improving profitability for the dealerships that will remain.
Even before we collated the AM100 data, it has been clear that we’ve had the biggest takeover activity since the era of Pendragon buying Reg Vardy.
Consolidation means there is a handful of new retailer names in the AM100 this time. Take a look at the AM100 report to see who is new, and who was bringing in great profits.
Thank you to the motor trade specialists at accountancy firm BDO for their collaboration on the AM100 research.
BDO’s Chris Bond, Steve Le Bas and James Evans have been analysing dealer group statutory accounts from 2023 with me, and crunching the numbers to monitor the financial output of the AM100.
Where 2023 accounts were not available, or consolidation had since occurred, we have provided estimates.
